JIMEH SALEH

Journalist

Jimeh Saleh gave audiences around the world their first glimpse of the hideout of the terror group, Boko Haram, as the first journalist to report exclusively from Sambisa Forest for the BBC World Service in 2015. He also conducted an exclusive undercover investigation into allegations of human rights violation by the Nigerian Army in their fight against Boko Haram in 2013. His illustrious BBC career began in 2008 as a Producer, rising to become a Senior Producer and later, Editor of the BBC Hausa Service in London. In that role, he had overall editorial oversight for one of the biggest language services of the BBC, reaching millions of audiences on multiple platforms. He is noted for his impactful journalism, editorial creativity and commitment to diversity and inclusion.

As Editor of the BBC Hausa Service, Jimeh introduced many innovative editorial projects such as the popular short story writing competition for women known as Hikayata, the concept is being replicated by other BBC language services. Jimeh worked for the Voice of Nigeria in Lagos and Abuja as a radio producer before joining the BBC. He is now the Editor of a partnership project between the BBC and the MacArthur Foundation, overseeing the production of public accountability town halls in Nigeria.

He holds a BA (Hons) in Mass Communication and an MA in Journalism (awarded with distinction) from the London Metropolitan University. He is also a BBC Culture Champion, a volunteer mentor, and a member of both the UK Institute of Directors and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, UK. Jimeh is also a frequent speaker and moderator at high-profile journalism functions across the world.

He was born and raised in Maiduguri, in northeastern Nigeria. Jimeh worked for the Voice of Nigeria in Lagos and Abuja as a radio producer before joining the BBC.
