Dr. Ruqayyah Yusuf Aliyu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information and Media Studies at Bayero University, Kano. She holds a PhD in Mass Communication and a Master’s degree in Public Health from Bayero University, Kano, as well as a certificate in Catering and Hotel Management.
She is an accomplished scholar, media professional, and development consultant with extensive experience in journalism, communication research, media ethics, gender studies, health communication, conflict reporting, public relations, and press freedom. Her academic and professional work reflects a strong commitment to responsible media practice, inclusive communication, and evidence-based public engagement.
Dr. Aliyu is widely published and actively participates in several national and international professional associations. She is a member of the Premium Times Ombudsman Board and the International Press Institute, where she currently serves as Chairperson of the Membership Committee. She has also served as an Editorial Board member of Sahelian Times and as Vice President, North West, of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria.
Her multidisciplinary experience extends beyond media and academia. She is an active member of the Network for Behavioral Research on Child Survival in Nigeria and works collaboratively with professionals across development, research, media, and public health sectors. She has also provided consultancy services to several development partners and media institutions.
Before joining academia, Dr. Aliyu worked as a journalist with Daily Trust Newspaper, beginning at the head office in Abuja before transferring to Kano, where she gained valuable newsroom and field reporting experience.
She brings to Amana Inclusive Technology Initiative strong expertise in media literacy, ethical communication, public engagement, gender inclusion, research, and development communication.
